About SETS

The SETS Group is an interdisciplinary team of students, engineers, and faculty focused on the research of (space) plasma electrodynamic phenomena and the technological and scientific application of space tether systems. We are developing new technologies for propellantless in-space propulsion concepts using electrodynamic tethers, field emitter array cathodes (FEACS) for low-energy emission of electrons in space applications, microwave and radio frequency (RF) probes for plasma diagnostics, space tethered multipoint measurement techniques of the ionopshere (RF and in-situ), space-based differential GPS measurements for tether dynamics monitoring, and relativistic electron beam propagation.
