Superthermal Electron Research Activities

Superthermal Electron Research ActivitiesThis is how I began in space plasma physics, building a numerical code with Dr. George Khazanov (my PhD advisor) to simulate the flow of photoelectrons from the mid-latitude ionosphere through the magnetosphere and into the conjugate ionosphere.  We looked at the factors controlling this magnetospheric passage, and quantified the plasmaspheric transparency for photoelectrons.  We also coupled this code with a two-stream hydrodynamic code for the plasmasphere (by Steve Guiter) and examined the collisional and elctrodynamic coupling with the thermal particles.  Lately, I have used this code along magnetic field lines near Mars to study the Mars-solar wind interaction.
